What to expect during your newborn session as a first time mom

You just booked your newborn session- now what? Other than waiting for your little ones arrival, writing thank you notes, and organizing the nursery, let's help you prepare for your newborn session.

You want to make sure you do your newborn session within 2 weeks postpartum. This is the time that your newborn is extra sleepy, extra cuddly, and has that amazing newborn skin (before the acne and dry skin set in). See my blog post here to read more about what to do when your baby gets cradle cap or baby acne.

The next thing you want is to find the best lighting in your home in the morning. This will typically be the room with the most windows. Your nursery may not be that room and thats okay. If you want photos of your nursery, we will discuss further in our planning consultation when you book your session.

Newborns do not have schedules but, typically I schedule newborn photos around 10 am. Mornings are the sweet spot, where your baby just woke up, they had their morning milk. A fed baby is a happy baby! I always encourage moms to keep a bottle or boob on standby because it never hurts to top off your baby before or during our time together. Be comfortable. There is a reason I plan these at your home. You do not have to leave the safety of your home or wear a ballgown or get your make up done. You can do that if you want, but chances are you are looking for something more stress-free. Wear leggings, put your hair in a bun, do a swipe of mascara- I want you to be in the photos! Here is my favorite hair product I use when I am postpartum that makes me feel a little more put together.

My hope is you feel a little more prepared walking into your newborn session with me. Haven't booked your newborn photography session yet? Inquire here to learn more.

xoxo
